    Abstract

Following informal contacts with teachers of Geography which revealed both positive and negative responses to the introduction of the Junior Certificate [JC] course in Geography in 1989, teachers in all second level schools in the Republic of Ireland were asked to complete a questionnaire to identify more formally their reactions to the change. This paper presents the results of the survey, in relation to some specific as peers and niore general reactions to the JC course, and seeks to outline the implications of the findings for the success of both the JC and for future curriculum development in Ireland.
